He completed his undergraduate work at Brigham Young University, with a two year hiatus as a missionary in Venezuela. Dr. Hansen then attended Wake Forest University School of Medicine where he completed his MD degree. He then returned to California for his residency training in Orthopedic Surgery which he performed at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. Upon completion Dr. Hansen was honored to accept a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine through UC San Diego. While there he provided care for athletes from all the major sports teams- including the San Diego Padres, San Diego State Aztecs, and UC San Diego Tritons. His fellowship experience provided him extensive training in the treatment of athletes and specific focus on reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee.

In 2004 Dr. Hansen joined Roseville Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine where he has practiced exclusively. Dr. Hansen's professional passion is to use the extensive skill and experience that he has gained in treating elite athletes, to the benefit of all his patients regardless of their desired activity level. He has served as the team physician for Granite Bay High School for 13 years. Dr. Hansen remains on the cutting edge of surgical techniques, including serving as a faculty instructor for training centers in Chicago and San Diego where participants come from around the world to be instructed on state of the art techniques for shoulder surgery.

Dr. Hansen feels very fortunate for the opportunities that he has had to use his surgical skills for medical mission work. To date he has participated in multiple medical missions to Nepal and Honduras. Most recently he was able to perform the first shoulder replacement surgeries in the nation of Honduras, restoring functional use of the arm to those who otherwise had no options.
